One of the most recognizable signs that New York City had been the victim of a diabolical crime was the thick layer of ash layered across everything outside in Lower Manhattan. The ash, a byproduct of fires and intense heat that spread through the World Trade Center buildings, includes pulverized concrete and other building materials, such as asbestos.
